Renovation planning

Plan your room renovation before choosing finishes

Define what needs to change, what can stay and which decisions should come first.

Start with the way the room is used

Before collecting product links, describe the problem you want the renovation to solve. A living room might need more storage, a clearer path between doors or finishes that feel consistent. A rental turnover may focus on worn surfaces and a straightforward handover. Write down the daily activities that the room must support. This gives every later choice a purpose instead of letting a shopping list become the project.

Separate essentials from optional changes

Create three short lists: keep, change and consider later. Include existing furniture and fixed features in the keep list. Put problems that affect how you use the space in the change list. Decorative upgrades can sit in the third list until you understand the scope. If the available budget changes, these priorities make it easier to adjust the project without redesigning every decision.

Record the starting point

Take wide photographs from each corner and close-ups of the areas you want to discuss. Note approximate room dimensions, door openings and the items that will stay. Label anything you are unsure about instead of guessing. These notes help explain your intentions, but they do not replace an on-site assessment or verified measurements for ordering.

Make the next conversation specific

A useful first brief states the room, the desired changes, your priorities and any access or timing constraints. Share a small set of reference images and explain what you like about each one: the color, storage layout or overall mood. Ask which details need to be confirmed before a written scope can be prepared. An online calculator is a starting point for that conversation, not a final project price.
